🌿 Traces of Summer | Flower Pounding Workshop
植物拓染工作坊
To touch, to smell, to observe.
To gather, to imprint, to remember.
What colours and shapes can we find in the plants around us? In this workshop, we’ll slow down and explore seasonal flowers and leaves through touch, scent, and observation.
Flower pounding is a simple way to transfer a plant’s natural pigments and delicate forms onto fabric. You’ll arrange flowers and leaves on a cotton tote bag, then gently pound them to create your own botanical impressions. Along the way, we’ll get to know some of the plants that share our everyday spaces.
A trace of summer, a touch of autumn—pressed into cloth to carry into the next season.

About The Speaker
Ziqi Mao is a Chinese multidisciplinary designer and artist based in the Netherlands. Having lived and studied in China, Japan, and the Netherlands, her practice explores the relationships between nature, migration, personal memories, and a sense of belonging.
Currently working across textiles, natural dyeing, papermaking, and participatory installations, she uses hands-on processes to explore how materials can hold memories and connect us to our surroundings. Her recent work focuses on indigo-dyeing as a way of reflecting on migration, care, and the experience of putting down roots in a new place.
Through her workshops, she invites participants to slow down, engage with materials, and discover new connections between everyday life, personal stories, and the environment.
