Event Introduction

Book Presentation | with Young China Circle
The Chinese Kitchen: Stories Behind China's Culinary Traditions

On 28 August 2026, Young China Circle (YCC) invites you to an evening with sinologist Alice de Jong, author of "De Bijbel van de Chinese Keuken" (the Bible of Chinese Cuisine), for a conversation about the stories behind Chinese food culture.
Alice will share the journey behind the book, the people she met, the regions she visited, and what she learned about China's culinary traditions along the way, illustrated with photos from her travels.

Together with Alice, we will reflect on:
– The diversity of China's regional cuisines
– Home cooking vs. restaurant culture in China
– What food traditions reveal about Chinese society and family life
The evening includes an author talk, a moderated conversation, audience Q&A, and an informal networking session with complimentary tea and snacks inspired by
recipes from Alice's book.
Limited copies of Alice’s book (in Dutch) will be available for purchase at the event. Signing your existing copy is also possible.
