Synopsis

Answer records a pivotal case in China’s #MeToo movement—Zhou Xiaoxuan’s (known as Xianzi) sexual harassment lawsuit against Zhu Jun. Between 2020 and 2022, the case underwent three court hearings, during which both Chinese society and the #MeToo movement saw significant shifts. Each hearing brought together supporters outside the courthouse who stood by Xianzi, sharing moments of laughter, tears, and political awakening. The film captures the setbacks and triumphs of this case, both inside and outside the courtroom.

Synopsis

Dedicated to women who fought back with the last of their strength, The War of Roses follows four women from different social backgrounds who each confront sexual harassment in very different environments. A university student, a corporate executive, a nurse, and a factory worker all face not only the original violation, but also the structures that protect perpetrators and isolate survivors.

Mickey CHEN is a documentary filmmaker, writer, and gender and human rights activist. His work was pioneering in bringing LGBTQ+ issues and other social questions into public discussion. He is also known for films including Not Simply a Wedding Banquet, Boys for Beauty, and Scars on Memory.
